About the Role

The Head of Compliance will play a critical leadership role in strengthening, developing and embedding Pharmanovia’s global compliance, ethics, risk and governance framework. This is a highly visible senior position with overall responsibility for the direction, strategic development, performance and ongoing maintenance of the organisation’s compliance programme. The role will provide strategic and practical compliance advice to senior stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions, supporting sustainable business growth while ensuring Pharmanovia maintains the highest regulatory, ethical and governance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Take overall responsibility for the development, direction, implementation, performance and ongoing maintenance of Pharmanovia’s global Compliance Programme.
  • Provide strategic compliance leadership and act as a trusted adviser to senior management and business leaders, delivering practical, proportionate and risk-based guidance on complex regulatory, ethical and governance matters.
  • Lead the design, development, implementation and continuous enhancement of the Group’s compliance, risk and governance frameworks, ensuring they remain appropriate for Pharmanovia’s international operations and future growth.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive compliance strategy and annual compliance plan aligned with business priorities, regulatory obligations and identified risk areas.
  • Conduct regular compliance and regulatory risk assessments and ensure that appropriate mitigation plans, controls, and monitoring activities are implemented.
  • Develop, implement and maintain compliance policies, procedures, controls and governance processes across the organisation.
  • Ensure the Compliance Programme remains effective, practical, scalable and aligned with relevant international laws, regulations and industry standards.
  • Provide strategic compliance input into major business initiatives, commercial activities, organisational change programmes, acquisitions, partnerships and cross-functional projects.
  • Partner closely with Legal and business stakeholders to ensure regulatory and compliance considerations are identified early and incorporated into business decision-making.
  • Maintain and continuously develop the Company’s global privacy programme, ensuring alignment with GDPR, UK GDPR and relevant emerging data protection and AI regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and support the completion of Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), Transfer Impact Assessments (TIAs) and other privacy risk assessments where required.
  • Lead and oversee privacy incident response processes, including managing data breaches and coordinating with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee processes relating to data subject rights and access requests across international regions.
  • Work closely with IT, HR, Legal and other functions to ensure appropriate privacy and data protection controls are implemented and maintained.
  • Monitor emerging developments in data protection, artificial intelligence and digital regulation and assess their potential impact on the Group.
  • Develop and implement a Group-wide risk, compliance, and ESG framework, strategy, and supporting policies aligned with Pharmanovia’s principles, culture, and regulatory obligations.
  • Ensure appropriate governance and oversight arrangements are established for key risk, compliance and ESG priorities.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing effectiveness of global compliance policies relating to anti-bribery and corruption, anti-money laundering, sanctions and other relevant regulatory obligations.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of relevant international regulatory frameworks, including the UK Bribery Act, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and other applicable legislation.
  • Monitor regulatory developments across relevant jurisdictions and proactively identify emerging compliance risks, regulatory changes and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with regulatory authorities and support regulatory engagement across multiple jurisdictions where required.
  • Support regulatory inspections, reviews, audits and other formal interactions with regulators and external bodies.

Qualifications

  • Professional Compliance qualification, degree-level qualification or relevant industry certification, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Significant experience in a senior Compliance, Risk, Legal, Regulatory Affairs or Governance role within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare or another highly regulated international industry.
  • Experience working across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Demonstrable experience leading, developing and implementing comprehensive compliance programmes, policies, controls and governance frameworks.
  • Experience interacting with regulators or supporting regulatory inspections and reviews.
  • Strong knowledge of international regulations (e.g. UK Bribery Act, FCPA)
  • Experience developing and implementing a global privacy program aligned with GDPR, UK GDPR, and emerging AI regulations.
  • Very versatile and adaptable, able to take a global strategic perspective, as well as take a hands-on approach
  • The ability to build trusted relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of an organisation
