In 2020 ATNAHS acquired the global commercial rights (excluding China and Japan) for Rocaltrol (calcitriol) from Roche.

Rocaltrol (calcitriol) is the active form of Vitamin D, primarily used in the treatment of post-menopausal osteoporosis and renal osteodystrophy.1

Rocaltrol was first approved by the FDA in 1998,2 although it was Dr Michael F. Holick, currently Director of the Bone Health Clinic, Boston University, USA, who made the original discovery of the active form of vitamin D in 1971.3

Dr Holick’s scientific work increased awareness among the medical community of the wide-ranging effects of vitamin D deficiency and of the beneficial effects of Vitamin D to the general public.3

A molecule whose revenues continue to grow

Calcitriol market expected to generate revenues of $470 million by 20244

According to a recent report, the global market for calcitriol was valued at $350 million in 2017 and is expected to continue growing.4

In 2018, there were almost two million prescriptions written for calcitriol.5
